About This Course
English for Tourism Professionals is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) designed for tourism professionals or students in the tourism industry. This course is designed for high-beginner and low-intermediate English learners (Level A2). Learners will study the principles of the tourism profession, review key vocabulary and grammar, develop their listening skills, and build their confidence in communicating in English. Course materials and assignments include video lectures, vocabulary and grammar resource lists, readings, discussion boards, and comprehension quizzes.
This course is provided by Ohio University, as part of the Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program. This program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding from the U.S. government and administered by FHI 360.
Learning Objectives and Learner Outcomes:
Participants will be able to:

- showcase the history, culture, food, and tourist attractions of their region
- provide information on tourism services and itineraries

This course will be open from June 20 – to August 8, 2022.
- The orientation module will open on June 20 at 12:01 AM ET. This orientation module is not mandatory, but it is recommended as a way to learn how to use Canvas, how to request support, and how to earn a certificate.
- Module 1 will open on June 27 at 12:01 AM ET and you will have until Sunday, July 3 at 11:59 PM ET to complete it. Each subsequent module will open on Mondays at 12:01 AM and close on Sundays at 11:59 PM.
- All coursework must be completed by August 8th at 11:59 PM ET. No late submissions will be accepted.
